The Rise of the Climate Economy and the Benefits of the Energy Incentive Program

Congress recently passed unprecedented energy legislation ushering in the upcoming Climate Economy. During this session you will learn about the Climate Economy and the potential $800 billion in energy incentives that are available for clients and architects in commercial and residential sectors for new construction and renovations. The program will highlight ways to connect environmental and sustainability initiatives at a practice with tax cash flow strategy, as well as ways to market the value of sustainable and energy efficient design as it relates to energy incentives in recent legislature.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the potential $800 billion in energy incentives within the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, including the Inflation Reduction Act enhancements of the Residential Energy Credit (Section 45L) and Commercial Building Energy Deduction (Section 179D).

  • Understand the new and improved Clean Energy Investment Tax Credit (Section 48) and learn examples of how energy incentives can be implemented into your tax cashflow strategy.

  • Connect the energy incentives in recent legislature with your Sustainability and Environmental initiatives.

Suyama Bodhinayake, Assoc. AIA | Associate BAUER Architects Suyama has over 20 years of experience in sustainable and energy-conscious design excellence in architecture and construction management. He is the Director of Advocacy and Sustainability and the Chair of the Committee on the Environment at AIA Orange County, promoting sustainability partnerships within OC communities and beyond.

Presenters:

Joe Sawatske, Principal, Energy Incentives Joe has over 15 years of experience in helping taxpayers realize tax incentives through the construction, renovation and design of energy efficient real estate. As the head of Eide Bailly’s Energy Efficiency Incentives (EEI) group, Joe oversees a national team of Professional Engineers, energy modelers and HERS Raters. The growing EEI group has extensive experience in performing Building Energy Deduction (179D), Residential Energy Credit (45L) and ENERGY STAR studies.

Josh Steinmetz, PE, CEM, Director of 179D Incentives Josh leads Eide Bailly’s 179D Commercial Building Tax Deduction team. He is a Professional Engineer licensed in 24 states, and an AEE Certified Energy Manager with over 20 years of experience. In addition to managing the 179D team, he ensures that each prospective 179D building receives a thorough and accurate site visit and provides engineering analysis for the challenging building systems we encounter.

Chad Valcoviak is a Manager in Eide Bailly’s tax credits and incentives group. He has over 6 years of experience as a tax consultant, primarily working with federal and state R&D tax incentives. He is responsible for leading advanced tax planning projects for both private and public clients across a variety of industries, including product development, manufacturing, engineering, software, automation, and technology.
