Webinar: The AIA Orange County Healthcare Committee Presents: Effects of the Pandemic on Hospital Building Design

Attendees will receive an understanding of the Operational Changes in Healthcare Delivery Forced by COVID 19, Best Practices for designing emergency departments to accept infectious patients, considerations for the quick conversion to negative pressure, and changing outside air percentage during wildfires due to smoke. Attendees will also be afforded a better understanding of how to expedite Emergency projects with OSHPD and how to streamline interactions with other jurisdictions when dealing with Temporary Surge Facilities.

Attendees will:

Understand operational considerations for designing healthcare facilities to be able to isolate infected patients while also being able to provide care for patients who are injured or ill but not infected.

Identify the need for increases in the number of airborne infection isolation rooms and how to convert rooms to negative pressure rooms.

Understand some of the challenges related to medical gases and medical gas systems during a pandemic.

Understand how the Covid-19 pandemic impacts the design and construction of healthcare facilities in the future.

Gary Dunger is an Executive Director for Cedars-Sinai Health System, Facilities Planning, Design & Construction department, responsible for overseeing the development of Planning, Design and Construction projects for the entire Health System from inception through project close-out. Formerly the OSHPD Business Process Manager, Chief Fire & Life Safety Office and Regional Compliance Officer, Gary has been involved with health facilities construction for 30 years.
