Lighting Control for Architects

Lighting Control for Architects

Lighting Control for Architects

Hosted and Presented By

Course Description:

This course will cover a comprehensive overview of how to specify lighting controls, communicate design intent with electrical engineers, and how to choose between different technologies. We will also cover emergency systems and their integration.

Learning Objectives:

  • To gain an understanding of lighting and emergency systems. We will look at wired vs. wireless controls, inverters vs. battery packs, and integrated vs. remote sensors. To understand how code impacts these decisions.

  • To understand how to communicate design intent to an electrical engineer and contractor through documentation and specifications. We will review how to specify a lighting controls narrative and how to incorporate this into your scope of work.

  • To understand installation and cost impacts. We want architects to have a firm understanding of the costs of different installation methods and systems to be able to have informed conversations with clients and contractors.

  • To understand tunable lighting, circadian lighting, dim-to-warm, and color changing lighting. We will review how these benefits the occupants and how to implement these strategies into your lighting controls design and narrative.
