TAKING INCLUSIVE RESTROOMS FROM “IF” TO “HOW” -
Studying Project Implications of Inclusive Restroom Systems in Practice
The course will review the practical considerations and project constraints of implementing inclusive restrooms as they compare to conventions of design for gendered restrooms. The comparison is developed through 6 lenses of analysis: accessibility, cost, equity & inclusion, maintenance, privacy, and safety utilizing an iterative design process. Cost estimation, community data collection, and historical analysis of restrooms will further be discussed to understand how inclusive restrooms can be integrated within public facilities.
Learning Objectives:
Attendees will learn how to incorporate accessible design into inclusive restrooms.
Attendees will learn about the design of mechanical in inclusive restrooms as compared to gendered restrooms to create healthy environments for the end user.
Attendees will learn how nation research and qualitative information is utilized to substantiate design choices based in health, safety, and welfare for building occupants.
Attendees will learn how the variety of inclusive restroom design options can create healthier buildings for the occupants and patrons.
