HERS Testing

HERS Testing

Presented By:

HERS (Home Efficiency Rating System) compliance testing is prescriptively required to achieve a building permit in California. Although HERS testing occurs during production insulation installation and after final finishes are installed, designers should understand testing requirements to help align plans appropriately.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand which HERS tests are triggered based on project type.

  • Learn about design considerations that can help the general contractor and HERS rater have successful tests.

  • Demonstrate ways to avoid failures, minimize construction delays, and deliver energy efficiency.

  • Discuss how HERS testing can help achieve energy efficiency and net zero objectives.

·         Utilizes general contracting experience (licensed general contractor) and deep code knowledge to help project teams navigate unforeseen challenges and potential scope creep.  Moe is also Certified Passive House Tradesperson.

·         Perform return on investment-based enhanced energy modeling, which significantly reduces first costs and reduces potential delays in design.  Once the building is built, Moe and his team perform energy assessment and warranty evaluations, which leads to favorable cost reductions.

·         Provides guidance and training for building design and construction stakeholders who are navigating green and energy codes through early entitlement phase through to operations and maintenance (Post C of O) phase.

·         Accomplished speaker and presenter. Hosts educational events to inform architects & developers on recent changes to energy codes and trends in sustainability.

·         Moe holds a master’s degree in urban design with an emphasis in sustainability from San Diego State University.
