2023 Global Color and Design Trends

& The Technology of Paints & Coatings

Presented by PPG

EmThe 2023 Global Color Forecast exposes the most significant color and design directions for the coming year, including discussions of influencers, consumer mood, styling, materials, textures, finishes and surface treatments as they apply to various commercial and residential market segments. The driver of our 2023 trend forecast is REFLECTION - reflecting on what matters to us most, our relationship to the planet and even the way we engage with others moving forward. Design trends have always been a reflection of cultural movement. So much of what comes next is a direct mirroring of what transpired in the recent years and even the past decade. Under this overarching idea, we will explore how the need for peace, wonder and connection will manifest their unique color and shape narratives in Design.

  • Learning Objectives:
Uncover the global color direction in three distinct trend stories to be applied in both residential and commercial segments including multifamily, senior living, healthcare, hospitality, work space, retail and more.

  • Discover how the consumer mindset evolved and influenced the color direction for 2023.

  • Improve your knowledge on the societal trends, events and materials influencing the upcoming color palettes and design trends.

  • Understand how other industries such as consumer electronics, aerospace, industrial and automotive influence architectural preferences.

The Technology of Paints & Coatings

Ever wonder what makes up a good bucket of paint? This program covers the ingredients in paint and goes into detail on the different resin types used in making paint and protective coatings. Participants will have a good understanding of acrylic, vinyl acrylic, alkyd, epoxy, polyurethane, Polysiloxane and fluoropolymer resins and where to best use these products. This is an excellent program for those that may be new to paint and coatings and would like to learn how these products work.

Learning Objectives:

  • Review the performance level of different paint types, including the environmental benefit gained by the use of higher quality or more durable paints and coatings.

  • Review additional options for meeting environmental and sustainability requirements in the application of paints and coatings including water-based versions of long-standing solvent based products.

  • Learn the components of paints and coatings, including: pigment, binder, solvent and additives and their function.

  • Identify different types of paints and coatings available in the industry, including low and zero VOC options for added beneficial environmental impact, and review the surface preparation required for their successful performance.
