Increasingly, security design must take into account its effect on the carbon footprint of building or installation. This encompasses both the materials used in the fabrication of the products as well as the energy consumption from using that product.  

Learning Objectives:


  • Understand the requirements of LEED v4 and Net Zero design.


  • Understand the life cycle impacts of building security system.


  • Understand energy savings potential of typical building security systems and how to use life cycle thinking to optimize these systems.

  • Describe how electronic access control can help building owners gain Materials & Resource (MR) credits in LEED v4.
