AIA Orange County COTE Committee Presents: Yes, Your Insurance Company Cares About Climate Change

Environmental considerations have long been a part of the design process. Obviously, architects must consider a project’s environment. It is the reason why outdoor malls exist in California but not in Minnesota. But climate change has introduced a host of new environmental concerns for architects to consider and address, including how to design projects to cope with the effects of climate change. As the effects of climate change are becoming more concrete—insurance carriers for architects and other design professionals are taking notice and considering climate change. This presentation is focused on how climate change affects design professionals from an insurance perspective and how insurance companies are currently thinking about and, in the future, may think about climate change.
